I am so excited to be sharing this Engagement Session from Disneyland and California Adventure. And, not just because of the location, but because the bride is my best friend from high school (this is Amber, by the way). I can’t even tell you how excited I was when Angel and Leiderson were (finally) officially engaged. ;) And, I was very happy I was able to tag along when Adam shot their engagement portrait session. It was a perfect day and Adam created some incredible images from the shoot, which we are sharing with you now. Enjoy!
This was a must have shot for Angel and Leiderson. Angel is a 911 Operator/Dispatcher and Leiderson is a Police Officer. It couldn’t be more perfect.
Happy New Year! 2011 was an incredible year for Embrace Life Photography. We had the honor of meeting lots of amazing people, shooting many beautiful occasions, and creating some spectacular photographs along the way. Since we struggled to keep up with sharing everything we’ve done this year, we decided to share our favorite photograph from each 2011 wedding, proposal, and couples’ portrait shoot in one big blog post — with a fun contest attached!
We feel so blessed to have met and worked with so many awesome couples in 2011, that we decided to do something special for them to ring in 2012. We’ve set up a voting contest on our Facebook Page. “Like” Embrace Life on Facebook in order to vote for your favorite photograph(s) of 2011.

Aimee and Derick’s Westlake Village Inn wedding photo album is absolutely stunning! The cover design is simple: Black leather, one photograph and one line of text – Yet, it has a bold, modern aesthetic that’s really striking. Their album is a great example of balancing the beautiful details, moments and people to really tell the story of the wedding day. For their 12×12 Digital Layout Album, we used a new design style to feature many photographs as large prints; Maybe we should call this style “Big and Beautiful”? Have a look:
With the holidays fast approaching, a lot of people are preparing to travel to see family or to get away with their families on vacation. If you’re one of the lucky ones, you’ll be able to get out of the cold (you know… these freezing 50° California winter days are almost unbearable) and travel to some tropical location. For those of us who can’t, here is a blog post to help get you through. =)
Back in March we photographed Kent + Darcy’s Oahu, Hawaii Wedding at the JW Marriott Ihilani at Ko Olina which you can see on our blog here. The day after the wedding, Adam had the pleasure of shooting a Newlywed Session with the newlyweds. Kent is from Oahu and decided on a great location on the island, the Waimea Valley Waterfall and Gardens. They also got a few sunset shots at Waimea Bay, which is world famous for big wave surfing (although there wasn’t much surf that day). It was a perfect Hawaiian day and a great way to start off their Hawaiian honeymoon.
One day after the biggest wedding in recent history, the English royal wedding, Maryam and Peter tied the knot at the Four Seasons Los Angeles, in Beverly Hills, California. Their wedding was an absolutely gorgeous, classy affair.
During Maryam and Peter’s first look portraits, a hotel security staff member invited us up to the hotel’s helipad. Fortunately, it was a beautiful, clear day in Los Angeles and this is one of the photographs we created on top of the hotel:

One day I received a phone call from a Texas phone number; it was someone named Enrique asking me if I could photograph his surprise proposal to his then girlfriend, Fatima. Enrique was so polite I doubted this was a real call. Soon enough, though, we were planning the details for this exciting afternoon.
Enrique told me that over the seven years that he and Fatima had been together, she had asked him many times to commission a professional portrait of the two of them. So, for their anniversary, he was finally going to surprise her with a shoot. And that wouldn’t be the only surprise; at the end of the shoot, Enrique would propose to Fatima. What a brilliant way to get the proposal photographed up-close and personal, right?
But, how would he get her to Los Angeles for the shoot? Enrique told Fatima that he needed to go to Los Angeles for a business meeting and that he’d like her to come along. This was also a genius way to have her pack lots of nice clothing, perfect for a professional photo shoot (that she didn’t know was going to happen).
The day of our shoot, I waited in the lobby of The Beverly Hills Hotel for Enrique and Fatima to arrive from their flight at LAX. As they came through the door of the hotel, Enrique and I exchanged a knowing glance before he and Fatima went to the counter to check in. After check-in, I walked up and introduced myself to Enrique and a very confused Fatima. I explained that for their anniversary, Enrique commissioned me to create some beautiful portraits of the two of them as a gift to her. They hurried to their room to change and prep for the shoot. I can only imagine that this was not an easy thing for Fatima to have land in her lap the second she arrived from her flight, but she was ready to go in no time, looking great and enthusiastic.
For the actual moment of the proposal, I switched my camera to HD video mode to capture the entire sequence. Above is a still frame of that very moment. Be sure to watch the slideshow with the entire proposal video sequence at the bottom of this post, too.
